MLAX Falls in Conference Tilt at New England College

HENNIKER, N.H. – The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team suffered their second consecutive New England Collegiate Conference loss on Wednesday afternoon, falling to New England College 24-2 at Don Melander Field.

Matt Daley and Thomas Norton had six goals apiece for the Pilgrims, who won for the first time this season. Six other New England College players found the back of the net, with Joey Olsen potting four goals and Sam Crary, Jackson Kain, and Nathan Hawkins each tallying two scores.

Mitchell junior Dylan Kinsella (Waterbury, Conn.) led the way with one goal and one assist. The goal was his fourth in the last two games and his sixth on the season. His assist went to junior Weston Schumacher (Sherborn, Mass.), who fired it home with just 22 seconds remaining in the contest.

The Pilgrims led wire to wire, expanding on a 3-0 lead after the opening quarter to carry an 11 goal advantage into halftime. A 7-0 third period followed, before NEC scored six more to begin the fourth. The Mariners goals came down the stretch and were two of their five shots on goal in the match.

Mitchell was outshot 69-17 and lost the turnover battle 27-14. The Mariners won 10 of 29 face-offs, converted 15 of 27 clear attempts, and were credited with 19 ground balls. Keeano Gonzalez (New London, Conn.) led the way with five ground balls for the visiting squad.

Ethan Wheeler logged all 60 minutes in the cage and made 15 saves against 39 shots on goal. Connor Almstrom and Jared O'Connor eached logged 30 minutes in goal for the Pilgrims and combined to make three saves.

The Mariners (0-12 overall, 0-2 NECC) will continue New England Collegiate Conference play on Wednesday, April 18, when they visit Eastern Nazarene College.
