Men’s Lacrosse Can’t Slow Down Rivier

NASHUA, N.H. - 13 different players scored for the Rivier University men's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon, as the Raiders cruised past Mitchell College 25-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Merrill Field.

Michael Zapatka led the scoring for the Raiders, finishing with five goals and two assists. David Lee added four goals and an assist, while Michael Ference tallied a hat trick and handed out three assists. Joseph O'Reilly also notched a hat trick in the win for Rivier, who held an 11-0 advantage after the first quarter and carried a 20-1 lead into halftime.

Senior Weston Schumacher (Sherborn, Mass.) and junior Keeano Gonzalez (New London, Conn.) scored the only Mitchell goals of the game, with Schumacher potting his team-leading ninth goal with 10:59 remaining in the second quarter. Gonzalez then added his fourth goal of the spring in the waning moments of the third stanza to cap the scoring for the Mariners. Gonzalez also scooped up six of the Mariner's 19 ground balls.

Mitchell won just five of 30 face offs and went 6-21 on clear attempts.

Senior goalkeeper Dylan Kinsella (Waterbury, Conn.) took the loss, logging all 60 minutes in the case while making 16 saves.

Sam Tibbetts earned the win in net after playing the first half. Curtis Michaud and Ryan Palmer split the second half in between the pipes.

The Mariners (0-6, 0-5 GNAC) return to conference action on Wednesday, April 10th, with a game at Lasell University. The Raiders (6-5, 4-2 GNAC) will look to make it three wins in a row when they travel to Wheaton College for a non-league game on Tuesday, April 9th.
