Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Emmanuel

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team fell by a final of 21-2 to Emmanuel College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon.

Ryan Etzo, Sanzio DiGsualdo, Thomas Quigley, Cole Cloney, and Cooper Mehlhorn each registered hat tricks for the Saints, while Etzo added four assists to finish with a team-high seven points. Jack Holmes and Aidan Sullivan chipped in two goals in the win, while Ethan Madura handed out three assists.

Junior Steven Swiderski (Hooksett, N.H.) and senior Robert Campbell (Glastonbury, Conn.) recorded goals for the Mariners. Seniors Weston Schumacher (Sherborn, Mass.) and Dylan Kinsella (Waterbury, Conn.) handed out one assist apiece. Junior Keeano Gonzalez (New London, Conn.) scooped up a team-high five ground balls, and senior CJ Bradley (West Babylon, N.Y.) was credited with four ground balls.

Emmanuel opened the game with seven unanswered goals in the first quarter and built up a 15-0 advantage by halftime. The score was 18-0 when Swiderski found the net for the first time this season off an assist by Schumacher with 7:49 remaining in the third frame.

Robert Campbell chipped in his first collegiate goal with 7:30 left in the game when Kinsella, the Mitchell goalkeeper, sent a deep pass the length of the field, which was caught and fired into the back of the net.

Eric Anderson got the start in net for the Saints and made two saves. Jake Reeves came in after the opening quarter and played the remainder of the game, turning away four shots.

Kinsella logged all 60 minutes in the cage for Mitchell and made eight saves.

The Saints outshot Mitchell 47-13, won 18 of 27 face offs, and tallied 46 ground balls to just 19 for the Mariners.

The Mariners (0-8, 0-7 GNAC) return to action on Wednesday, April 17th, when they travel to face GNAC North Division foe Regis College. The Saints (5-9, 5-3 GNAC) host Rivier University on Wednesday, April 17th.
