MEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS UMAINE - PRESQUE ISLE IN AD3I REGIONAL SEMI FINAL, 3-1

Poultney, VT (Saturday, November 3, 2007) (Photo by Pietro Camardella)- In the Association of Division III Independent Northeast Regional Tournament, the Pequots from Mitchell College and the Owls from University of Maine at Presque Isle met for the third time this season in the second semi-final of the tournament.  Splitting games during the regular season, this match-up looked to please.

The Pequots (8-11-1) stepped into the match at full tilt scoring midway and late in the first half.  An unassisted goal by freshman forward Joel Blancflor (Haddam, CT) to open and what would be the game winner by junior forward Josh Griffo (Higganum, CT) assisted by Blancflor put Mitchell in command going into half-time.  The Owls fought mightily and an unassisted goal by freshman forward Devon Peaslee (Woolwich, ME) cut the lead in half.  Mitchell would answer with a second unassisted goal by Blancflor to put the game out of reach for the Owls (8-10-1).

Pequot net minder, senior Gian Camardella (Norwich, CT), made 6 saves on 9 shots to keep the Owls at bay.  UMPI goalkeeper, junior Scott Clenchy (Herberts, SK) made 10 saves on 13 shots.

Mitchell meets University of Dallas for the finals tomorrow at 1:30 PM while UMaine - Presque Isle plays Green Mountain in the Consolation round at 11 AM.
