DELTGEN SCORES WINNING GOAL IN 2OT, MITCHELL WINS SECOND IN A ROW

NEW LONDON, CONN.-Men's soccer defeated Lyndon State College 4-3 after 104:26 minutes of play for their second win of the week and season.  Junior Adam Deltgen (Norwich, Conn.) repeated his performance from Wednesday's win with the golden goal in the second overtime period. 

Mitchell hit the field ready to play and junior Josh DaSilveira (Milford,NH) found the net on an unassisted goal in just eighth minutes of play.  DaSilveira followed his first with a second off an assist from classmate Justin Curtis (Fairfield, Conn.) (16:02).

Lyndon scored their first goal of the afternoon before the end of the half when junior Darren Roberge (Sheldon, VT) headed in a shot off a corner kick by classmate Chris Cowen (Averill Park, NY) (36:02).

Mitchell maintained the lead through the first half of the second period.  At 67 minutes Lyndon tied it up when junior Kyle Hessler (Middletown, R.I.) converted on a penalty kick opportunity. A minute and a half later, Adam Deltgen scored his first goal of the day off a pass from classmate Josh Griffo (Higganum, Conn.). With less than a minute left, The Yellow Jackets scrambled for a goal to send the game into overtime.  Freshman forward Makui Vertie (Burlington, Vt.) headed in a goal just past the Mitchell keeper who had deflected an earlier attempt. 

The score remained at 3-3 through the first extra period.  With 5:36 left on the clock in the second overtime, Griffo took a hard shot off the crossbar that was retrieved by Adam Deltgen who slipped it by the goalie for the victory. 

Mitchell now stands at 2-8-1, Lyndon State College drops to 5-4 this season.  Mitchell will head to Anna Maria College on Monday afternoon for a 4:00 PM kick-off.  Lyndon State will finish out their road-trip with a game at Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vt. on Sunday, game time is set for 2:00 PM after the women's game.
