NEW LONDON, CT, Oct 11, 2008 -  Mitchell College Men's Soccer edged out conference rival Lesley University, 4 -3.  Lesley junior striker Phil Lund (Stratford, CT) grabbed a rebound off Mitchell goalie to score the first goal of the game 3 minutes in.  Mitchell was able to settle down and in the 13th minute on a cross from senior midfielder Josh Griffo (Killingworth, CT) to junior defender Adam Deltgen (Norwich, CT) who headed to Junior forward Teddy Dixon (Stratford, CT) who found the back of the net to tie the game at 1 -1. Mitchell continued to pressure the Lesley defense and in the 36th minute freshman midfielder Tom Derosier grabbed a lost ball from Lesley goalie Zach Almedia-Beers to give the Mariners a  2-1 lead.  Three minutes later Mitchell senior Justin Curtis (Fairfield, CT) broke thru and crossed the ball to sophomore forward Jaime Serrano (Clinton, CT) who fired a shot center top shelf.

Going into the second half Mitchell freshman midfielder James Gleason (Woodstock, CT) broke thru and took it unto himself and cleanly placed the ball in the lower left to have the Mariners go up 4 -1.  Lesley would not give up and game back in the 57th minute when Lesley freshman striker Alex Carros grabbed a rebound and gave the Lynx's their second goal of the game.  Seven minutes later Lynx junior back Scott Wheeler (East Hampton, CT) crossed to freshman midfielder Dallas Eubanks (St. Petersburg, FL) who got a head on it and Mitchell goalie Andy Hall was unable to punch it out.

Mitchell was able to hold off the last 20 minutes and finished the game with 24 shots, 13 shots on goal.  Mitchell goalie Andy Hall had 5 saves in the game.  Mitchell is currently in first place in the New England Collegiate Conference with 4 -0 record.  According to head coach Dean Roberts, "I'm proud of the boys this week.  They had two difficult conference games this week and are 2 - 0 for the week which gives us sole possession of first place.  They pulled out a tough one today and Lesley came ready to play and it was a great conference game."

Lesley is currently in fourth place in the NECC with a 2 -2 record and 4 - 10 overall.  The Lynx's next game is home against Curry College on October 13 at 8:00 p.m.

Mitchell hosts cross town rival Connecticut College on October 14th at 4:00 p.m.
