Woodford Tabbed NECC Player of the Week

ATTLEBORO, Mass. - Mitchell College sophomore Kevin Woodford was named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the sport of men's soccer, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.

Woodford, a goalkeeper, was a key factor last week as the Mariners clinched a postseason berth in the upcoming NECC Championship. On the final day of the regular season, he made four saves at Southern Vermont College to preserve a 1-0 shutout. He allowed only one goal in 180 minutes and finished with 13 saves for the week.

Mitchell (5-11-0 overall, 3-4-0 NECC), the fifth seed in the 2009 NECC Championship, will play at fourth-seeded Southern Vermont College (10-7-1 overall, 3-3-1 NECC) in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, November 4 at 2 p.m. The winner advances to play top-seeded Daniel Webster College (10-5-0 overall, 6-1-0 NECC) on Friday, November 6.
