Men's Soccer Loses 3-0 to Lesley

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Lesley University in a New England Collegiate Conference contest on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Lesley (11-4-1 overall, 5-2-0 NECC) took the lead on an own goal and added scores in each half for the final margin. Darius Koep and Ali Sozeri each tallied for the Lynx while goalkeeper Max Perkins recorded four saves to notch his second shutout of the season.

The game was scoreless until the 29th minute when a miscue by the Mitchell defense proved costly, as an attempt to play the ball back to goalkeeper Kevin Woodford missed the target and rolled into the corner of the net. Lesley then seized momentum by adding its second goal just 94 seconds later, with Koep scoring his first of the season off a feed from Ari Sinanis. Woodford got a piece of the shot but couldn't keep it out of the goal.

Lesley took the 2-0 lead into the halftime intermission and added its final goal in the 87th minute. A failed clear by the Mitchell defense left Sozeri with a good look from outside the 18, and he drilled a low rocket into the right corner of the goal for his team-leading 11th tally of the season.

Lesley held a 15-9 advantage in shots and a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. Woodford finished with three saves for the Mariners.

Mitchell (4-10-1 overall, 2-5-0 NECC) will close out the regular season with a home date against Becker College on Saturday, October 29 at 2 p.m.
