Men's Soccer Loses on OT Goal at ECSU

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – After 99 minutes of a scoreless game, Mitch Power scored in the final minute of the first overtime period to give the Eastern Connecticut State University men's soccer team a 1-0 win over Mitchell College Wednesday at Nevers Field.

Ranked fifth in New England, Eastern (4-0-0 overall) was unable to score until overtime when Power scored on a wonderful strike from outside of the penalty box. Powers' second goal of the season was the only shot that beat sophomore keeper Ramazan Sinani, who recorded 14 saves in the losing effort.

In the first half Eastern had numerous opportunities to score including one chance in the 18th minute when Coby Tobler crossed the ball into the box to find Tom Vear for a shot that was stopped and eventually recovered by Sinani. Another chance in the first half that didn't amount to a goal was in the 12th minute when Power had his shot go off the right goalpost. The ball then ended up on Tobler's foot, but his shot went over the crossbar on the rebound attempt.

Goalkeeper Jordan Munsell made three saves to record his fifth shutout in nine career starts. Munsell has not allowed a goal in the past two games for Eastern.

Mitchell (1-2-0 overall) was not able to create much offense, managing only nine total shots while attempting only one corner kick. Eastern recorded 32 shots and 11 corner kicks.

Mitchell returns to action at Western Connecticut State University on Wednesday, September 19 at 7 p.m.
