Conn College Tops Men's Soccer

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's soccer team lost a non-conference match-up to Connecticut College by a 7-0 final on Tuesday afternoon in a steady rain at Alumni Field.

Graham Christensen led the way for the visitors with two goals and an assist, one of five goal scorers for Conn College (3-2-3 overall) on the day. The Camels held a commanding 31-4 advantage in shots and an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.

Kevin O'Brien got things rolling for Conn College in the 18th minute when he scored on a loose ball after Mitchell failed to clear a corner kick. The ball bounced around in the box before he poked it into the back of the net for his second goal of the season.

The goal was the first of three in the half for the Camels. Billy Hawkey scored on a penalty kick in the 20th minute and Christensen netted his first of the game in the 39th on a header just inside the far post on a corner kick served up by Doug Garabedian.

Conn College added four more goals in the second half, all in the final 20 minutes. Christensen assisted Marino Patrk for a score in the 72nd minute, and Dillon Kerr found Kevin Burt on a breakaway for a tally in the 81st. Christensen added his second of the contest just over a minute later, and Darlington Martor closed the scoring in the 87th minute on a feed from Burt.

Max Nichols made one save to preserve the clean sheet for the Camels. Sophomores Ramazan Sinani and Chad Harshbarger combined to make eight stops in net for the Mariners (3-5-0 overall).
