Men's Soccer Sails to 4-1 Win at Becker

LEICESTER, Mass. – Four Mariners each scored a goal as Mitchell College defeated host Becker College by a score of 4-1 in NECC men's soccer action on Saturday night at Alumni Field.

Sophomore Frank Williams and freshman Zack Rocheleau each recorded a goal and an assist as the Mariners improved to 6-6-0 overall and 4-1-0 in conference play. The Hawks dropped to 3-14-0 overall and 1-5-0 in the NECC.

Mitchell sophomore Jordan Derosier scored the first goal of the game in the sixth minute off an assist by Williams. After the Becker goalkeeper attempted to punch away a corner kick, Derosier recovered and headed home the ball to put the Mariners up 1-0.

In the 21st minute, a second Mitchell goal off a header was negated by an offside call. But in the 43rd minute, Williams took off on a breakaway and blasted a shot past Becker goalkeeper Tim MacDonald to put Mitchell up 2-0 heading into the break. Mitchell dominated shots in the first half by a 12-4 margin.

The second half was marked by physical play as both teams fought to take control. Mitchell finally found the back of the net for the third time on the night, as sophomore Jason Kirby took a pass from Rocheleau and finished in the 61st minute.

The Hawks finally got on the board in the 67th minute when Matthew Ballou took advantage of a missed assignment by the defender, striking out to cut the score to 3-1. Less than two minutes later, the Mariners added their fourth goal of the evening when Derosier found Rocheleau for a long goal to go up 4-1.

For the Hawks, MacDonald tallied nine saves in goal while Mitchell sophomore goalkeeper Ramazan Sinani recorded three.

Mitchell will next play at Lesley University on Tuesday, October 23 at 8:00 p.m.
