NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Eastern Connecticut State University men's soccer team scored three goals in each half of Tuesday afternoon's non-conference tilt at Mitchell College, finishing with a 6-0 victory at Alumni Field.
Six different players scored for the Warriors (3-1-1 overall), who held a commanding 38-3 edge in shots. Emmanuel Caicedo provided the game-winning tally in the 32nd minute, and the ECSU defense held strong to give goalkeeper Greg Walton his second shutout of the season.
Caicedo's goal came as the result of a Mitchell foul outside of the box near the left sideline. Luke Capezzone sent the ensuing free kick in front of the goal to Caicedo, who headed it up and wide of the mark. However, he then tracked the ball down before it crossed the endline, took a touch to get a better angle, and slipped a shot inside the near post for his first goal of the season.
The Warriors added scores by Ryan Pomroy in the 38th minute and Tim Jennison in the 43rd to take a 3-0 lead into the half. ECSU outshot Mitchell 21-1 in the opening stanza and put 10 shots on goal.
The story remained the same in the second half as Mitch Power opened the scoring in the 77th minute, blasting home a free kick from 25 yards out. Gavin Neuendorf and Capezzone added the final goals in the 85th and 90th minutes, respectively, with Alejandro Tobon recording assists on each score.
Mitchell played a total of three goalkeepers in the match. Ramazan Sinani finished with nine saves while Chad Harshbarger had two and Austin Hawks recorded one.
Mitchell will open conference play at Daniel Webster College on Saturday, September 21 at 1 p.m.
