Late Goal Gives MSoccer a Win at Albertus Magnus

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's soccer team won for the third time in four games as it posted a 1-0 victory at Albertus Magnus College on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference play.

Junior Frank Williams scored on a direct kick in the 84th minute to provide the lone goal of the match. Classmate Ramazan Sinani made the margin stand up in goal, tying a season high with 10 saves to earn his first shutout of the season.

After a scoreless first 83 minutes, senior Zachary Simmons drew a foul just outside the Albertus box to set the stage for Williams. After the Falcons built a wall to defend against the free kick, Williams bent a shot around the defenders and into the top right corner for his team-leading fourth goal of the season.

Williams, who was tabbed NECC Player of the Week on Monday, now leads the conference with three-game winning goals on the year.

Mitchell (3-5 overall, 1-0 NECC) returns to conference play at home against Elms College on Saturday, September 28 at noon.
