Late Goal Sinks Men's Soccer at Lyndon State

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Lyndon State College scored in the 87th minute to hand Mitchell College a 1-0 loss in non-conference men's soccer action on Sunday afternoon.

Lyndon State's Hunter Torrey notched the game winner at 86:27 as the Hornets improved to 3-1-0 overall. Mitchell dropped to 3-2-1 on the season.

In an up-and-down contest, the Hornets managed to spring Dylan Cherko down the right side where he chipped a cross into the middle of the penalty box. There, Torrey ran onto the ball and let loose a shot that was originally stopped by Mitchell goalkeeper Ramazan Sinani. However, Torrey managed to corral the rebounds and punch home the ball to give the Hornets the lead for good.

The Mariners had a great chance to equalize in the final minutes, but a left-footed shot from Jason Kirby curled just outside the far post.

Sinani finished with four saves while Lyndon State keeper Jason Marks also made four stops.

Mitchell will next play at Springfield College on Sunday, September 21 at noon.
