Men's Soccer Shuts Out Daniel Webster, 2-0

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Mitchell College recorded goals in each half for a 2-0 victory over Daniel Webster College in a New England Collegiate Conference men's soccer match-up on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Mitchell (4-4-1, 1-0-0 NECC) got on the scoreboard in the 39th minute on a goal by senior Jordan Derosier and added an insurance goal in the 53rd minute off the foot of classmate Frank Williams. Senior Ramazan Sinani made five saves in goal to preserve his third shutout of the season.

The Mariners escaped trouble early as an offside call against the Eagles (3-4-1 overall, 0-1-0 NECC) wiped out a potential goal in the fifth minute. Instead, it was Derosier who later recorded the first tally of the match, finishing off a sequence in which the Mariners completed several passes to move into scoring position. Taylor Surette got things started in the midfield and found Adam Ensley on the right wing, and his centering pass found Derosier in front of the goal for a shot inside the right post.

Mitchell led 1-0 at the break but added to the margin just over seven minutes into the second stanza. Williams took a pass from junior Zack Rocheleau and arched a shot over the Daniel Webster goalkeeper for his team-leading fourth tally of the season.

The Eagles had a chance to cut the deficit in half in the 56th minute but failed to convert on a penalty kick. Later in the contest, Eusebio Marote put a good shot on goal but saw it turned away by a leaping punch save from Sinani.

Sean Hamilton made four saves in goal for the Eagles, who held a 16-14 advantage in shots.

Mitchell will next host the United States Coast Guard Academy on Wednesday, October 1 at 4 p.m. Daniel Webster returns to action at home against Rivier University on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
