Surette Strikes Again to Lift Men's Soccer Past Becker

LEICESTER, Mass. – Mitchell College defeated Becker College 2-0 in New England Collegiate Conference men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

The win boosts the Mariners to 9-7-1 while the Hawks drop to 2-16.

The Hawks nearly notched the first goal of the game in the 27th minute when Michael Miklos fired a hopeful shot on frame. Mitchell senior goalkeeper Ramazan Sinani put a stop on the play when he tipped the blast just over the crossbar.

In the 60th minute, senior Nicholas Donahue carried the ball up the right flank and produced a promising cross, but was denied the offensive opportunity when Hawks' freshman goalie Karl Cameron came off his line to preserve a scoreless game.

The offensive spark came with 15:55 remaining in regulation when senior Taylor Surette netted a line drive from the 20-yard line. The goal was his fourth of the season and his second game winner in as many games.

At 79:43, Mitchell padded the lead when sophomore Andrew Nigro capitalized on a central pass from freshman Jarron Walter. The goal was the sixth of the year for Nigro while Walter picked up his first collegiate point.

Cameron recorded nine saves in the game for the Hawks. Sinani finished with two stops for the Mariners to secure his sixth shutout of the season and fourth in conference play.

Mitchell will next play at Lesley University on Wednesday, October 29 at 8:00 p.m.
