Men's Soccer Clipped in OT at Daniel Webster

NASHUA, N,H, – Ian Hutchinson and Marcos Vieira Filho connected for the game winner with 2:14 remaining in overtime to give host Daniel Webster College a 1-0 victory over Mitchell College in the regular season finale for both New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) clubs Saturday at Eagle Field.

Hutchinson took a ball deep into the offensive zone and sent a pass from inside five yards from the end line on the left side back across the box. Filho knocked it home on the right corner as the Eagles closed the regular season on a 14-game win streak and an 8-0 record in conference play.

DWC (16-3 overall) becomes the third team in NECC history to finish with an unblemished NECC regular season record joining Lesley University (7-0) in 2012 and Mitchell (6-0) in 2008, but becomes the first program to finish 8-0.

The Eagles, who already had wrapped up the top seed for the NECC Championship and regular season crown, are off until Friday when they host a NECC semifinal at 2:00 p.m. against either fourth-seeded Lesley or fifth-seeded Regis College. Mitchell (7-9-1, 4-4 NECC) finishes as the sixth seed for the tournament and will play on Wednesday, November 4 at third-seeded Newbury College with a time to be determined.

Despite the loss, Mitchell keeper Anthony Drake was the star of the game, turning aside 21 DWC shots with eight saves in the first half, 11 in the second and two in overtime. Eagle goalkeeper Sean Hamilton made just one save on the day to record his 23rd career shutout.

DWC controlled play throughout and finished with a 41-3 advantage in total shots (22-1 on goal) and took eight corners to one for the Mariners.
