Men's Soccer Places Four on All-Conference Teams

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Four members of the Mitchell College men's soccer team were recognized by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday afternoon.

Senior Graham Cavanaugh, junior Andrew Nigro and freshman Andrew Storton were named to the all-conference second team while sophomore Anthony Drake earned a spot on the all-conference third team. Storton was also selected to the NECC All-Sportsmanship Team. All awards were determined by a vote of the league's head coaches.

Cavanaugh, a co-captain and cornerstone of the Mitchell defensive line, was a second team pick for the second time in his career (2013). He started and played in 16 games this season, and the four-year starter made 68 appearances and 66 starts over his career while helping the Mariners to 30 wins and four straight NECC postseason appearances.

Nigro enjoyed a breakout season in which he led the team in scoring and registered career highs in goals and assists. The starting midfielder ranked among the NECC leaders in scoring with 24 points on nine goals and six assists, with more than half of that production (six goals, four assists) coming in seven league contests.

Storton finished his first season with 16 points on eight goals. The rookie forward saw action in 16 contests and made 15 starts, and during the season he was a two-time NECC Rookie of the Week selection.

Drake played in 13 matches and logged over 978 minutes in goal for the Mariners, finishing with a 1.38 goals against average and the second-best save percentage (.819) in the conference. He finished with three shutouts on the year and posted a record of 6-6-0 between the pipes in his first year in a starting role.

Mitchell finished the season with an overall record of 7-10-1 under first-year head coach Damian Houlden. The Mariners went 4-4-0 in league play and earned the sixth seed in the NECC Championship before being eliminated 2-0 by Newbury College in the first round.
