NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Connecticut College men's soccer team opened the 2016 season with a 9-0 victory over visiting Mitchell College on Tuesday afternoon at Harkness Field.

Chris Lockwood scored both of his goals in the first half to pace the Conn attack. Six Camels found the back of the net on the day, with Ben Manoogian and Manny Balbontin also adding a pair of scores apiece.

Conn came out firing and tested rookie goalkeeper Seth Strader early. Mitchell's rookie netminder made a pair of diving stops in the opening 12 minutes, but on the second attempt the rebound came out to Lockwood and he finished for a 1-0 lead.

Lockwood's second goal came with just under 11 minutes to play in the half. The Camels played the ball up the right sideline and found Lockwood at the near post for the 2-0 advantage. Conn added another goal in the final eight minutes to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.

The Camels put the game out of reach with four goals in the opening 14 minutes of the second half. Manoogian and Balbontin each scored twice in the stanza as Conn mounted 45 total shots on goal.

Strader made eight saves in the first half before turning things over to Romer Ochoa, who finished with six. Conn goalkeeper Mark Cameron made two stops to record the shutout.

Mitchell (0-2-0 overall) will next play at Worcester State University on Saturday, September 10 at noon.
