Men's Soccer Earns Draw Against Mount Ida

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Mitchell College and Mount Ida College played to a scoreless draw on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference men's soccer contest at Alumni Field.

The match was halted late in the second half due to lightning, with both teams retreating to the locker room for safety. The final 15 minutes were never played as darkness set in before the game could re-start.

Mitchell held a slight edge in shots (10-8) in a contest that produced few scoring chances for either side. Mount Ida goalkeeper Riley Ford made two saves while Mitchell's Romer Ochoa and Seth Strader combined for three.

The best scoring chance for the Mustangs came in the 11th minute when Juan Brenes drilled a shot off the crossbar. Mitchell's best opportunity came in the 58th minute off a restart from midfield. The Mariners served the ball into the box and found Andris Vital open for a good look at the far post. He attempted to chip a shot over Ford in goal but saw the ball sail over the crossbar.

Mitchell (0-3-1 overall) will next host Albertus Magnus College on Wednesday, September 21 at 3 p.m.
