Soccer's Tomaj, Urena Earn NECC Weekly Recognition

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Two members of the Mitchell College men's soccer team were honored by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday.

Sophomore Christian Tomaj was named NECC Player of the Week while freshman Christian Urena was tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week. The duo helped the Mariners to a 2-0 week in league play that included one-goal wins over Newbury College and Regis College.

Tomaj scored three goals last week to raise his team-leading total to six. He netted the game-winning goal against the Nighthawks in the 58th minute, the only score of the contest. He then tallied twice against the Pride as Mitchell erased a two-goal deficit in the final 11 minutes of regulation to win in overtime.

Urena netted the golden goal in Mitchell's overtime victory over Regis. The goal, the first of his collegiate career, came just 1:13 into the extra period and gave the Mariners their fourth straight NECC win.

Tomaj has played in 13 games and made 11 starts and leads the Mariners in scoring with six goals and one assist for 13 points. Urena has seen action in 10 games with six starts and has recorded one goal and one assist for three points.

Mitchell (4-8-2 overall, 4-1-1 NECC) will next play at Lesley University on Wednesday, October 26 at 8 p.m.
