Men's Soccer Picks Up Draw at Lesley

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Mitchell College men's soccer team salvaged a 1-1 draw at Lesley University on Wednesday night  in a New England Collegiate Conference match-up at Edward Field.

Andris Vital scored the first goal of the match in the 74th minute to put the Mariners on top. Mitchell held the lead until the final two minutes of regulation, when Harrison Sidell netted the equalizer for the Lynx. The two sides then played 20 minutes of scoreless overtime before the final horn.

Goalkeeper Seth Strader made two saves in extra time, including a diving stop on a rocket in the first extra period. The Lynx held an 8-2 shot advantage in OT and twice had shots hit off the post. Strader finished with six saves in the contest while Lesley keeper James Webb had four.

With the tie, the Mariners (4-8-3 overall, 4-1-2 NECC) secured a home match for the upcoming NECC Men's Soccer Championship. Mitchell is still in the hunt for one of the top-two seeds and a first-round bye in the tournament, needing a win in the regular season finale on Saturday, October 29 against NECC leader Daniel Webster College.
