Five From Men's Soccer Honored by NECC

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Five members of the Mitchell College men's soccer team were honored by the New England Collegiate Conference on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Andrew Nigro and freshmen Seth Strader and William Ferguson were selected to the NECC All-Conference Second Team while junior Zavier Veliz and sophomore TJ Condon earned spots on the NECC All-Conference Third Team. Nigro was also named to the NECC All-Sportsmanship Team. All awards were determined by a vote of the conference's head coaches.

Nigro, a co-captain and four-year starter in the midfield, earned second team status for the second time in his career (2015). He started all 17 games this season and ranked second on the team in scoring with three goals and three assists for nine points. In four seasons he played in 71 games with 68 starts and racked up 48 points on 18 goals and 12 assists.

Strader logged the most minutes of any goalkeeper on the Mitchell roster, making 14 appearances and nine starts in his rookie campaign. In league play he went unbeaten in six starts (4-0-2) with two shutouts and ranked among the NECC leaders in goals against average (0.93) and save percentage (.793).

Ferguson and Veliz combined to anchor a defensive unit that allowed only 11 goals in conference action. Ferguson started all 16 regular season games while Veliz made 15 appearances and 11 starts. Veliz also recorded a goal and an assist in his debut season with the Mariners.

Condon, a midfielder, started all 17 games and finished the year with two goals and two assists for six points. He netted his first career goal at Worcester State University on September 10 and added the second in league play at Becker College on October 15.

Mitchell finished the season with an overall record of 4-10-3 (4-2-2 NECC). The Mariners qualified for the NECC Championship for the ninth year in a row but were eliminated by fifth-seeded Elms College in the first round on November 1.
