Coast Guard Tops Men's Soccer by 2-0 Final

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Coast Guard Academy men's soccer team stayed unbeaten at home as it topped Mitchell College, 2-0, in non-conference action Wednesday evening.

With the win the Bears improved to 5-2-1 while the Mariners dropped to 1-5-1 on the season. Brock Hassett and Ryan Dandan each scored their first goals of the season while Patrick Palermo-Re and Alex Hall each had an assist.

After a scoreless first half, Coast Guard managed to get both its goals in a five-minute window early in the second period.

In the 52nd minute, Palermo-Re slid a pass to Hassett on the left side and 40 yards out from goal. Hassett settled the pass and fired a shot on goal that dipped over the keeper and into the back of the net for the game's opening goal.

In the 57th minute, Hall caught up to a pass on the right side of Mitchell's penalty box and knocked a service back across the front of the goal. Dandan received the pass at the penalty spot, turned back to his right and hit a shot into the bottom right corner for the second and final goal of the game.

Dakota Harich (2-1) earned his second shutout in as many games as the Coast Guard defense held the Mariners offense at bay, not allowing a single shot on goal. Seth Strader (1-5-1) made eight saves on 10 shots on goal.

Mitchell will next host Southern Vermont College on Saturday, September 30 at 1 p.m.
