Men's Soccer Falls Short at Montclair State

MONTCLAIR, N.J. -- The Mitchell College men's soccer team hung tough but ultimately fell by a 2-0 final at Montclair State University on Wednesday night at MSU Soccer Park.

The Mariners kept one of the nation's top offensive squads off the scoreboard for nearly 70 minutes before allowing a pair of scores in a two-minute span. The Red Hawks, ranked eighth among NCAA DIII teams in scoring at 3.58 goals per game, got tallies from Chaz Burnett and Rafael Terci in the 70th and 71st minutes, respectively.

Goalkeeper Jose Romero made his first career start and recorded seven saves in the first half to keep Mitchell in the game. Seth Strader took over after the halftime intermission and also made seven stops.

The Red Hawks held a commanding 40-5 edge in total shots. The Mariners put four shots on goal, all of which were turned away by Mike Saalfrank.

Mitchell (2-6-1 overall) returns to conference play at Wheelock College on Saturday, October 7 at noon.
