Men's Soccer to Face Saint Joseph's (ME) in NCAA First Round

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The bracket for the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship was released on Monday afternoon, and for the first time in school history Mitchell College found itself among the field of 62 teams.

The Mariners have a date with Saint Joseph's College (Maine) in the first round of the single-elimination tournament. The game will be played at Tufts University's Bello Field on Saturday, November 11 at 1 p.m. The winner advances to the second round and a match-up with the host Jumbos, who received one of two first-round byes in the tournament.

Mitchell (9-8-1 overall) earned its NCAA spot by winning the New England Collegiate Conference Championship for the first time ever. The Mariners defeated Newbury College in the semifinals before posting a 1-0 victory over Elms College in the title game.

Saint Joseph's nabbed a NCAA berth by winning the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship for the second consecutive year, besting Norwich University by a 1-0 final in the title game. The Monks, who are making their fourth NCAA appearance, sport an overall record of 18-0-1 and have yet to allow a goal this season.

Tufts (15-1-2 overall) defeated Middlebury College by a 1-0 final to claim its first-ever NESCAC Championship. The Jumbos, the defending national champions who are making their seventh NCAA appearance, are ranked fourth in the nation in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll (October 31).

Tickets for Saturday's game are available for purchase at the gate. Prices are $6 for adults and $3 for students/seniors.
