Men's Soccer Falls at #15 Stevens

HOBOKEN, N.J. -- Mitchell College fell to 15th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology in its men's soccer opener on Saturday night DeBaun Athletic Complex.

The Ducks (2-0-0 overall) scored goals in each half and finished the contest with a 16-4 edge in total shots. Mitchell goalkeeper Seth Strader finished with five saves in the setback.

Stevens got on the scoreboard in the 15th minute when a Mitchell foul yielded a free kick from five yards outside the box. Andrew Masur drilled the ensuing kick into the Mitchell wall, though the rebound was quickly buried on a left-footed rocket by Stephen Johnson to make it 1-0.

Five minutes later, Strader cut down the angle on a Stevens breakaway and made a sliding kick save to keep the deficit at one.

In the second half, Adam Silva converted a long throw in from Kevin Brito to make it 2-0 in 67th minute. Mitchell's lone shot on goal came just over a minute later as Diego Di Carlantonio challenged Aaron Henry for the first time all night. Henry made the stop to secure his second clean sheet of the season.

Stevens entered the game ranked 15th in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll.

Mitchell (0-1-0 overall) will next host Connecticut College on Tuesday, September 4 at 4 p.m.
