Babson Blanks Men's Soccer

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Babson College scored a goal in each half of a 2-0 victory at Mitchell College on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference men's soccer showdown at Alumni Field.

Noah Parker scored both goals for the Beavers, who improved to 5-1-4 overall and extended their unbeaten streak to four. Parker becomes the 10th player to record a goal for Babson this season, as well as the first to net two in a game.

The Beavers struck early as Parker corralled his first marker of the season just 4:05 into the contest. The sequence began with Chris Czarnecki firing off a close-range shot at Mitchell goalkeeper Seth Strader, who stopped the blast but had no chance at holding on. Parker quickly teed up the rebound and put Babson on the board, and the 1-0 advantage held until the halftime whistle.

Babson added to the margin in the early stages of the second half. The insurance goal came in the 54th minute as Mitchell Collins served up a ball from the right side of the box that found Parker just outside the goalie area. He volleyed the ball out of the air with his right foot and into the back of the net for his team-leading second goal of the season.

Mitchell's best chance to answer came in the 70th minute on an individual effort by Quinn Outerbridge, who beat his defender down the left side of the field for a crack at the goal. However, his attempt sailed high, and the Mariners put only one more shot on goal over the final 20 minutes.

The Beavers held a 14-8 advantage in total shots. Babson goalkeeper Steven Heintzelman made a pair of saves to record his fifth shutout of the season. Strader finished with seven stops between the pipes for the Mariners in the loss.

Mitchell (3-6-0 overall) will next play at Newbury College on Saturday, October 6 at noon. Babson returns to action at home against Emerson College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
