Men's Soccer Secures NECC Bye with Win at Lesley

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Mitchell College men's soccer team closed out the regular season with a 1-0 victory at Lesley University on Sunday evening in New England Collegiate Conference action.

In the process, the Mariners secured the second seed and a first-round bye in the upcoming NECC Championship. Mitchell will host a semifinals match on Friday, November 2 at 2 p.m. against the winner of sixth-seeded Lesley and third-seeded Eastern Nazarene College.

As for Sunday's contest, a goal by William Ferguson in the 58th minute proved to be the difference. The score was his team-leading fifth of the season.

The Mitchell defense made the margin stand, limiting the Lynx to only six shots in the match. Goalkeeper Seth Strader made a pair of saves to pick up his fourth shutout of the season.

The Mariners evened their record at 8-8-0 overall and improved to 6-2-0 in conference play. Mitchell ended the regular season with five wins in its last six games, including four straight in NECC contests.
