Men's Soccer Salvages Draw vs. Old Westbury

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Mitchell College and SUNY Old Westbury played to a 1-1 double-overtime draw on Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's soccer action at Alumni Field.

The Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute thanks to an own goal. The Mariners equalized in the opening minute of the second half, earning a penalty kick after Diego Di Carlantonio was tripped from behind while racing to the ball. William Ferguson stepped up to take the penalty and calmly buried his shot into the left corner for his first goal of the season.

The remainder of regulation and two overtime sessions failed to provide a winning goal. Mitchell had its best chance in the 75th minute when Julian Cortez drilled a shot off the crossbar.

James Perciballi finished with five saves in goal for the Panthers, who moved to 2-2-1 overall on the season. Mitchell goalkeeper Michael Kennedy Jr. made three saves in his first career start.

Mitchell (1-2-1 overall) will next host Eastern Connecticut State University on Wednesday, September 18 at 4 p.m.
