Men's Soccer Shut Out at Coast Guard

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Coast Guard Academy men's soccer team used four different goal scorers in the first half to take down Mitchell College, 4-0, in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.

Taka Lendon put the Bears on the board in the seventh minute as he received a through ball from Gio Ottomanelli inside the Mariners box to put away his first goal of the season. Mike Daunt tallied his fourth goal of the season five minutes later as Lendon carried the ball to the endline and found Daunt cutting through the box.

The Bears took a 3-0 lead when Daniel Taglianetti sent a cross to Robbie Fugett, who buried a header past Mitchell goalkeeper Seth Strader in the 20th minute. Ten minutes later, the Bears notched their final goal of the game as Patrick Morris found Noah Engstrom wide open in the box for his second goal of the season.

Coast Guard (4-4-0 overall) outshot Mitchell by a 27-7 margin and had a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks. Goalkeeper James Morrison made six saves in the victory and improved to 2-1 on the season. Strader finished with seven saves for the Mariners.

Mitchell (1-5-1 overall) returns to action at home against Brandeis University on Saturday, September 28 at noon.
