Men's Soccer Plays NEC to 1-1 Draw

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Mitchell College and New England College played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon in a New England Collegiate Conference men's soccer match-up.

Each team scored in the opening half but couldn't manage another score over the final 45 minutes of regulation or 20 minutes of extra time. Mitchell moved to 0-9-3 overall (0-1-2 NECC) while NEC's record is now 5-5-2 (2-1-1 NECC).

The Pilgrims got on the scoreboard first in the 14th minute when Wiskens Flavil served a ball into the box from left sideline. Logan Cassin slipped behind the back line and volleyed a right-footed shot into the corner of the goal, giving Mitchell goalkeeper Joey Rosa no chance at the save.

The Mariners answered in the 23rd minute after Ruben Gomes won a ball in the midfield and took the possession up the right wing. He then centered a pass into the box for Dylan Lucey, who took a touch before rifling a shot at goalkeeper Hayden Walker. Although Walker got his hands on the ball, the shot carried into the back of the net for the equalizing score.

Mitchell will next host Connecticut College on Wednesday, October 20 at 3:00 p.m.
