Mitchell Men's Soccer Fall in Road Opener

EAST BOSTON, Ma. -- The Mitchell College men's soccer team traveled to Boston for their first game of the 2022 season, and narrowly fell to Suffolk at East Boston Memorial Park, 2-1.

Just over six minutes into the action Brady Sorensen found the back of the net on an assist from Miguel Varela to put Suffolk ahead by one. It would remain a one score game heading into intermission, however the Rams continued to apply pressure, as Suffolk had two goals in the first half which were called off due to offside penalties.

The Mariners finally got on the board late in regulation, when Nolan Clack fired home a goal, unassisted, with 8:46 on the clock. Unfortunately, Mitchell then scored on their own goal to give the Rams a 2-1 lead, where it would remain.

Suffolk outshot Mitchell 26-4, with the Rams recording 12 shots on goal to the Mariners 1. Joey Rosa had a strong performance in goal for the Mitchell, making 10 saves.

The game was the head coaching debut for Cam Pilger, who took over the program this summer. Prior to Mitchell, Pilgor spent four years at the University of St. Joseph in West Hartford, leading the team to one quarterfinal and two semifinal appearances in the Great Northeast Athletic Cnference Tournament.

The Mariners (0-1) begin their season with three road games, and will be back in action on Saturday, traveling to New Haven to face Albertus Magnus.
