Men's Soccer Suffers Setback vs. Albertus Magnus

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision at Albertus Magnus College on Saturday afternoon at Celentano Field in an out of conference game.

Johan Stagnaro netted the game's first goal in the 36th minute on an assist from Orantay Blake. It remained a one goal deficit until the 81st minute, when Kelvin Cortez scored for the home team, who picked up their first victory of the season. The Falcons (1-1-0) snuck one more goal across in the final minute of the match, an assist from Yahya Kardad to Joao Oliveira.

Both squads had difficulty breaking through on offense for the majority of the game, as Mitchell was held to just three shots on goal, while the Falcons managed just 13 shots on goal. Mitchell goaltender Joey Rosa continued his strong play to begin the season, making nine saves.

Nolan Clack, Stephen Contreras, and Matt Ladd fueled the offensive attack, each getting a shot on goal off for Mitchell.

Mitchell (0-2-0) will be back in action on Tuesday, September 6th, as they play their third road game in a row to begin their season. The Mariners won't travel far, however, making the short trip to face crosstown rival Connecticut College.
