Men's Soccer Shutout by Crosstown Rival Conn

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Mitchell College men's soccer team made the short trip across town on a rainy Tuesday afternoon, and were shutout by rival Connecticut College, 9-0.

The defending Division III national champion Camels (1-0-0) scored four goals in the first half, five goals in the second half, and controlled play for much of the match.

Eight different players scored for Connecticut College, with senior Steve Yeonas leading the charge by firing home a pair of goals. Both goals by Yeonas came within the first 20 minutes of the game, the first on an assist by Sam Boehm, while the second was set up by Gaven Vanden Berg. Vanden Berg then found the net himself in the 21st minute, off a feed from Yeonas, before Augie Djerdjaj added the final Camel goal of the first half in the 38th minute.

Well in control, Connecticut continued to attack through the rain and wind, as Oury Diane, Maurice Pigola, Luke Cibelli, Dylan Zane, and Alex Robles all added goals down the stretch.

Making his first start in goal this season for the Mariners was Dylan Kinsella, who finished with 11 saves.

After three consecutive road contests to begin the season, Mitchell (0-3-0) will host Worcester State on Thursday in their home opener at 3:00pm.
