Five Second Half Goals Propel Men's Soccer Over Mass. Maritime

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Mitchell College men's soccer team won their second consecutive game on Monday afternoon at Alumni Field, riding a barrage of five second half goals to a 5-0 victory over Mass. Maritime in non-conference play.

Mitchell senior Nolan Clack led the offense attack, notching a hat trick in the second half to give him a team-leading five goals on the season. Snadooby Robert and Dylan Lucey each added goals down the stretch for Mitchell, who have outscored their opponents 8-0 over the past two games.

The opening half was a back and forth struggle between the Mariners and the Buccaneers, with neither team able to gain much ground or come away with a goal. The tide turned quickly after the intermission, however, as less than a minute into the second half sophomore Nick Forst set up Clack, who fired home what ultimately proved to be the game winner. Less than five minutes later it was Clack once again, this time bending a corner kick around the leaping Buccaneer goal keeper into the left corner of the net.

The third goal came during the 56th minute when Stephen Contreras booted the ball from the wing and placed it directly in front of the goal box. Timing it up perfectly was freshman Flavio Alvarado, who used his head to feed an oncoming Lucey and the sophomore fired home his fourth goal of the season. Not long after, in the 65th minute, Clack took possession just past midfield and turned on the jets, beating his defender into the top left corner of the penalty box. Clack then made a move, shook another defender, and crossed his third goal of the afternoon into the right corner of the net. The final Mitchell goal came off the right foot of freshman Snadooby Robert, who was assisted off a header pass by senior Jack Varley. The goal was the first of Robert's collegiate career.

The Mariners controlled pace of play all game, outshooting Mass. Maritime 25-13, including a 14-5 shots on goal advantage. Junior keeper Dylan Kinsella pitched a shutout in net, making five saves.

Mitchell (4-6-0 overall) will ride their two game winning streak into Wednesday's home tilt against Fitchburg State at 3:00 pm. The Buccaneers will play next on Saturday at 10:00 am against Framingham State on the road.
