Men's Soccer Drop Conference Battle at NEC

HENNIKER, N.H. -- The Mitchell College men's soccer were outlasted 1-0 by New England College on Wednesday night in a New England Collegiate Conference battle at Don Melander Field.

Both squads struggled to gain an advantage on the other in the highly physical game between conference rivals, playing to a scoreless draw in the first half. The action remained scoreless until late in the evening, when the Pilgrims drew a corner kick with just seven minutes and four seconds remaining. Kicking from the far left corner, Robenson Saintil booted the ball with his right foot, connecting on a header to William Scala, who was all alone by the right side of the goal. Scala's header went uncontested into the top right corner of the net, giving the home team the goal needed to escape with a victory.

Mitchell senior Joey Rosa was steller in goal all game, making seven saves against 20 total shots by New England College. Hayden Walker was credited with two saves for the Pilgrims, turning back shot attempts by Mitchell's Nolan Clack and Nick Ghirardi.

The Mariners logged 11 shots, two on goal, and had two corner kicks. NEC managed 20 shots, eight on goal, and worked with two corner kick opportunities of their own.

Mitchell (5-8-0 overall, 1-2 NECC) will look to rebound on Saturday, October 22, when they host Eastern Nazarene College on Senior Day at 12:00 pm. Meanwhile, New England College hosts Lesley University in a conference showdown on Saturday, October 22, at 1:30 pm.
