Men's Soccer Wraps Regular Season with Win Over Lesley

LEXINGTON, Mass. -- The Mitchell College men's soccer team wrapped up their regular season with a 2-0 shutout over Lesley University in New England Collegiate Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Minuteman High School.

Dylan Lucey and Flavio Alvarado scored for the Mariners, who recorded their fourth shutout of the season and finished with a 2-4 record within the conference.

The game was scoreless until the 23rd minute, when Dylan Lucey found the back of the net for his team leading seventh goal of the season. Alvarado added his sixth goal of the year in the 85th minute off an assist from Nolan Clack, as Mitchell downed the Lynx for the second time this season. Senior Joey Rosa pitched a shutout in goal for the Mariners, making five saves while Lesley's Josiah Williams was credited with nine saves.

Mitchell finished with 19 shots, 12 of them on goal, and had three corner kick opportunities. The Lynx registered just eight shots, five on goal, and had two corner kick opportunities.

The Mariners (6-10-0 overall, 2-4 NECC), who earned the third seed in the upcoming New England Collegiate Conference men's soccer tournament, will play at second-seeded New England College on Wednesday, November 2, at 6:00 pm. Mitchell dropped both games against the Pilgrims this season, losing 1-0 on the road and 4-2 at home. The winner of that matchup will advance to Saturday's conference championship, where they will play whichever team survives the other semifinal game between top-seeded Eastern Nazarene College and fourth-seeded Lesley.
