Men's Soccer Has No Answer For JWU

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's soccer team were shutout 7-0 against Johnson & Wales University in a GNAC showdown on Saturday at Alumni Field.

Seven different Wildcats scored in the victory, as the visiting team netted what would be the only goal they needed in the 12th minute of play when Jonathan Baker found the back of the net off an assist by Alexander Pane. The Mariners would limit JWU to just that goal across the first 45 minutes and went into the intermission trailing 1-0. The Wildcats then erupted for six second half goals, as Connor Elliot, Vincent Tredici, Brian Miller, Aidan Bagley, Bennett Varanelli, and Elijah Coleman each tallied scores. Bagley also added a pair of assists in the win.

The Wildcats outshot the Mariners 28-5 and held an 11-0 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Noslin Antunez (Westbrook, Conn.), Flavio Alvarado (New London, Conn.), and Chris Costa (Bayport, N.Y.) each registered a shot on goal for the home squad.

Freshman goalkeeper Jesse Jenkins (Windsor, Conn.) got the start in goal and turned away 10 shots, marking the second consecutive game he has finished with double-digit saves.

The Mariners (2-8-3, 2-7-2) will look to bounce back on Tuesday, October 17th, when they host Lasell University on Senior Day at 4:00 pm. The Wildcats (10-2-2, 9-1-1 GNAC) will host Albertus Magnus College on Tuesday, October 17th.
