Men’s Soccer Falls to Monks in Season Finale

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's soccer team saw their season come to an end of Tuesday afternoon, dropping a 2-0 decision to Saint Joseph's College in GNAC action at Alumni Field.

The junior duo of Nate Sottak and Rion Dos Santos accounted were responsible for the pair of goals scored by the Monks, with Dos Santos adding an assist on Sottak's goal, which broke open a scoreless game in the 21st minute of play. The Mariners defensive proved effective against a Monks squad which entered the day with just two conference losses on the season, holding them to just one goal over the first 45 minutes. Unfortunately for the home team, Dos Santos made it a two score game in the 59th minute, and the defense that finished the regular season with eight shutouts held the Mariners to just 10 shots, just two of them on goal.

Mitchell goalkeeper Jesse Jenkins (Windsor, Conn.) wrapped up an impressive freshman campaign, turning away 16 shots to wrap up with fall with 88 saves and a 2.71 goals against average in 12 starts. Junior Liam Foley recorded two saves to finish with a clean sheet for the Monks, good for his ninth shutout of the season.

Senior Nick Ghirardi (East Lyme, Connecticut) and freshman Leotrim Gashi (Seymour, Conn.) were the lone Mariners to register shots on net.

The Mariners finish the fall with an overall record of 2-11-3 (2-10-2 GNAC). Saint Joseph's College concludes their record season with an 11-3-3 record (11-2-1 GNAC).
