XC Opens Season at Trinity Invitational

MANCHESTER, Conn. - The Mitchell College men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2010 season at the Trinity Invitational on Saturday morning at Wickham Park.

Senior John Hoffman paced the men's team, which finished seventh in the field of seven teams. He completed the 5K race in 17:44 and placed 36th overall. Also with a fine showing in his first collegiate race was Drew Castagna, who finished 52nd overall in a time of 18:40.

On the women's side, senior Brittany Smyth placed 47th overall to lead the Mariners with a time of 19:59. The Mitchell women placed sixth out of six teams.

Mitchell will be back in action on Friday, September 17 when it hosts a meet at Stenger Farm Park in Waterford, Conn. The race, which begins at 4 p.m., will include Albertus Magnus, Bridgeport and Post.
