XC's Hoffman Named NECC Runner of the Week

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College senior John Hoffman was named New England Collegiate Conference Runner of the Week for the sport of men's cross country, as announced by the conference on Monday morning.

Hoffman led Mitchell and recorded his season-best 8,000-meter time at the Connecticut College Invite over the weekend, crossing the finish line in 128th place in a time of 28:11. He chopped 20 seconds off his season-best 8K time in a field of NCAA Division I, II and III harriers. The Mariners placed 18th overall with 566 points.

Hoffman, who has paced the Mariners in all five races this season, earns weekly conference honors for the second time this season. The two-time All-NECC selection has won two races already this season and will look to add a third to his resume at the NECC Championship on October 30. Last season he finished as runner-up at the event.

Mitchell will next compete at the NECC Championship, which will be held at Harkness State Park.
