XC's Newcity Named NECC Rookie of the Week

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College freshman Sheila Newcity was named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Rookie of the Week for the sport of women's cross country, as announced by the conference on Monday morning.

Mitchell opened the 2012 season at the Trinity Bantam Invitational over the weekend. In her collegiate debut, Newcity paced the Mariners with a time of 20:14 in the women's 4k race, good enough for a 50th place finish in a field that also featured Division I and II runners. It marked the fastest time by a Mitchell women's runner at the event since the 2010 season.

The Mariners will next host the Mitchell Invitational on Friday, September 14 at Stenger Farm Park at 5 p.m.
