XC's Castagna Named NECC Runner of the Week

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College junior Drew Castagna was named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Runner of the Week for the sport of men's cross country, as announced by the conference on Monday morning.

Castagna ran to a first-place finish last week at the Mitchell Invitational at Stenger Farm Park. The race came down to the final 50 meters where he out-sprinted a runner from Post University to cross the tape first with a time of 25:47.7 over the 6,760-meter course. In addition to recording his first career win, Castagna helped the Mariners finish second in the team standings.

Castagna earns Runner of the Week honors for the first time this season and second time in his career. He also earned the distinction last season as a sophomore.

The Mariners will next compete at the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday, September 22 at Long Lanes Farm. Races are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
