XC Opens 2013 Season at Trinity

MANCHESTER, Conn. -- The Mitchell College men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2013 season at the Trinity Invitational on Saturday at Wickham Park.

The Mariners finished seventh out of seven teams on the women's side and ninth out of nine on the men's. The Salve Regina women and the Siena men took home team honors for the event.

Sophomore Sheilah Newcity paced the Mitchell women with a time of 20:56 on the 4K course. Senior Katie Buchanan was close behind at 21:17 while junior Bridget Burns clocked in at 22:36. Freshman Morghan Moroney (22:37) and junior Tierney Caulfield (22:37) rounded out the team scoring for the Mariners.

On the men's side, senior Drew Castagna led Mitchell with a time of 20:30 for the 5K course. Junior Adam Oshrain (21:12) also ran a strong race and shaved over a minute off his 2012 time at the same event. Sophomore Spencer Daniel (21:16) and freshmen Samuel Williams (21:17) and Timothy Hoch (21:23) also scored for the Mariners.

Mitchell will next run at the Mitchell Invitational on Friday, September 13 at 4:30 p.m. The event will be held at Stenger Farm Park in Waterford, Conn.
