Mitchell Men, Elms Women Take First at Mitchell Invite

WATERFORD, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's and women's cross country teams hosted Elms College and Newbury College at the 2014 Mitchell Invite on Friday evening at Stenger Farm Park.

The Mitchell men's team beat out Newbury in a head-to-head contest. The Mariners had four of the top five finishers and totaled 21 points to edge the Nighthawks (34). However, it was Newbury sophomore Chris Beaudoin who was first to cross the tape, covering the 7,205-meter course in a time of 29:27.4.

On the women's side, Elms (16 points) defeated Mitchell (46) in another two-team duel. Elms freshman Sarah Tatgenhorst paced the field of 18 runners with a time of 20:55.7 over the 4,852-meter course. The Blazers had the top four finishers in the race before Mitchell senior Bridget Burns crossed the finish line in fifth at 24:18.0.

Beaudoin won the men's race by just over four seconds, edging Elms junior Adam Kuzdzal. Mitchell sophomore Samuel Williams placed third at 29:49.0 while Elms sophomore Joshua Diaz Rolon came in fourth at 30:18.2.

Nobody was close to Tatgenhorst in the women's race, as she crossed the finish line more than a minute before her nearest competitor. Senior Rachel Lehouillier finished second overall for the Blazers in a time of 22:12.0. Newbury's top finisher was freshman Naomi Ricciotti, who placed 13th overall at 27:01.0.
