XC Wraps Up Season at NECC Championship


WESTFIELD, Mass. - The Mitchell College cross country teams competed at the 2016 New England Collegiate Conference Championship on Saturday morning at Stanley Park.

Southern Vermont College took home team honors on the men's side while Regis College captured the women's title. The Mitchell men finished fourth in the field of six teams while the women placed sixth out of eighth.

Freshman David Still finished fourth overall in the men's 8k race and earned one of seven spots on the all-conference first team. He was the only non-SVC runner to place in the top five, and he becomes the first Mitchell runner to earn first team status since 2011. George Sykes (15th), Nick Lebron (19th), Axel De Jesus (32nd) and Orson Sinclair (33rd) also crossed the tape as the Mariners tallied a team score of 96 points.

Sophomore Francesca Pinard paced the Mariners in the women's 5k race, finishing 20th overall in a time of 22:57.63. Kate McCormack (31st), Drew Johndrow (35th), Caelin Hetherman (42nd) and Victoria Chalko (55th) all contributed to the team score of 162 points.
