Men's XC Sweeps NECC Weekly Honors

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – A pair of Mitchell College student-athletes were honored by the New England Collegiate Conference for the sport of men's cross country, as released by the league on Monday morning.

Junior David Still was named NECC Runner of the Week while freshman Mark Garceau was tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week. Still earned the honor for the first time this season and the fourth time in his career. Garceau earned the distinction for the second straight week.

Still was the first runner to cross the finish line at the Blazer Classic Invitational this past weekend, besting the field of 53 competitors in the 8K race. His time of 30:21 was eight seconds faster than the next finisher, and the win gave him the second individual title of his career.

Garceau turned in a top-five finish at the Blazer Classic Invitational, crossing the line in 30:46 to place fourth overall. Among the 25 NECC runners in the field, his time was second-fastest behind only Still.

Still and Mitchell were the only teammates to finish in the top five of the Blazer Classic Invitational. The Mariners finished fifth overall at the event.

Mitchell will next compete at the CCRI Tri-State Open on Saturday, September 29.
