XC's Burns Named NECC Rookie of the Week

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College freshman Grace Burns was named New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the sport of women's cross country, as announced by the league on Tuesday.

Burns recorded her fastest 5k time of the season last week at the James Earley Invitational, covering the course in 26:32.49. She helped the Mariners finish 26th overall in a deep field.

Burns earned the honor for the first time this season and is the first Mitchell rookie to earn the distinction since Ashleigh Beauford in 2014. She has competed in all four races for the Mariners this season.

Mitchell will next compete at the Suffolk Invitational on Friday, October 12 at Franklin Park in Boston, MA. The women's race is slated to begin at 4 p.m. with the men's race following at 4:45 p.m.
