Still Wins NECC XC Championship; Three Mariners Earn All-Conference Honors

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Three members of the Mitchell College men's and women's cross country teams earned all-conference honors at the 2018 New England Collegiate Conference Championship on Saturday morning at Stanley Park.

David Still won the men's individual title, running away from the field of 43 runners in a season-best time of 28:39. He finished 48 seconds ahead of his next closest competitor, becoming just the second Mitchell runner to ever claim medalist honors at the NECC Championship. For his efforts he was named NECC Runner of the Year, and he becomes the first Mitchell runner to earn all-conference first team status in three consecutive years.

Joining Still on the all-conference first team was Mark Garceau, who completed the 8k course in a time of 29:59 to finish seventh overall. His time was also a personal best, and he becomes the fourth Mitchell rookie to earn first team honors.

On the women's side, Kate McCormack paced the Mariners and finished ninth in the field of 41 runners. Her time of 23:08 landed her a spot on the all-conference second team. She becomes just the fourth Mitchell women's runner to ever earn all-conference recognition and the first since 2013.

Mitchell finished sixth out of seven teams in the women's race with 111 points. Elms took home the team title with 53 points in a tight battle with Lesley University (61). Dean College ran away with the men's team title, placing three runners in the top 10 to finish with 48 points. The Mitchell men finished fifth with 92 points.

Two additional Mariners received recognition at the event. Evan Kristal and Victoria Chalko were each named to the NECC All-Sportsmanship Team for the first time in their respective careers.
